Martin Scales, Senior Pastor
Our senior pastor, Marty Scales, is a witty, accomplished preacher and counselor who is adept at shining the wisdom of Biblical truth on the dilemmas of contemporary life.
Marty also is an expert on small-group ministry. He came to Canyon Creek in 1995 by way of Spanish River Church in south Florida, one of the largest churches in our denomination, and South Coast Community Church in southern California, another very large, well-known evangelical congregation. At both churches, Marty oversaw ministries related to small groups and assimilation of newcomers into the church. He also spent two years as a writer and speaker with Serendipity House, Inc., which specializes in small group publishing and training, and served two years with Youth for Christ. Marty still teaches small group training seminars several times a year for Pilgrimage/NavPress.
A native of Philadelphia, Marty graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible and earned a Master of Divinity from Talbot Theological Seminary. He is ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America. Marty and his wife, Lee, have two children.
Travis Marsh, Assistant Pastor
Travis Marsh heads Canyon Creek's growing youth ministry. His goal for the program is two-fold: that students graduatefrom high school with an understanding that God loves them and desires to be in a relationship with them; and that students learn how to continue to grow in their faith after high school.
Travis joined Canyon Creek in 1995 after earning Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Religious Studies at California State University, Sacramento. During college he spent five summers as a counselor and administrator at Redwood Camp, a Christian youth camp near Santa Cruz. He continues to lead annual Leadership Development programs there. In June 2006 Travis graduated from Western Seminary with dual degrees, Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy. He is ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America.
